A 12-wheeler truck plunged into a gorge in Wahgate along the Jowai-Shillong highway, killing the driver.
The incident took place at midnight yesterday when the truck bearing registration number AS-01-FC 8513, transporting clinker destined to Shillong plunged into a 50 meter gorge after hitting a tyre repair shop located near the Challam Syngkon petrol pump.
The Fire & Emergency Services (SRT) carried out its rescue operations with the help of four recovery trucks managed to pull the body of the driver of the ill-fated truck this afternoon.
The driver has been identified as Khrawkupar Phawa of Sohmynting village in West Jaiñtia Hills district.
