The South West Khasi Hills district administration has banned all types of fishing competitions and public gatherings at the fishing pond area within a distance of 500 meters from the PWD roads.
The order came following the traffic congestion caused by the fishing competition held at Pamphyrnai in Ksehkohlong village, West Khasi Hills district, which even caused the life of a new born baby.
“The order has been issued in view of the reports that some individuals and groups of persons are in the habit of organizing fishing competition/public gathering at the fishing pond areas which are located near the PWD road, during such gathering smooth flow of traffic is disturbed creating inconvenience to the general public,” District Magistrate, Tableland Lyngwa said in an order issued today.
Anyone aggrieved by the order may approach the office or any competent authority, the order said.
