A training programme on ‘Central Silk BOard Silkworm Seed Regulations 2010’ was conducted today at the P-4 unit Muga Basic Seed Production Centre in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills.
It was conducted under the aegis of the Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organisation of the Central Silk Board.
To know the secrets of producing high quality seeds, expert staff of the Sericulture Department of Assam and Meghalaya came together today to glean important facts about the provisions of the Seed Act.
Progressive Muga/eri seed farmers also participated in the programme. NK Bhatia, Director of Guwahati’s Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organisation, highlighted the progress in Muga/eri seed production. Vikram Kumar and K Indira Kumar discussed the Silkworm Seed Act in their speech.
Mahashankar Majumdar, Scientist at the P-4 Mendipathar unit, moderated today’s programme and highlighted aspects of how basic seed production is being planned, how women can be empowered and how the central government is promoting Muga/eri silk production.
