The All-Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxis Association (AKMTTA) has suggested the State government to enter into a “reciprocal transport” agreement with Assam.
The association in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the agreement should be along with terms and conditions for a symmetric arrangement so as there is a mutual interest of the transporters of both the states.
It also suggested for a Meghalaya Motor Vehicle and Taxation Rules and also a 24X7 info centre of the tourism department at the airport and railway station in Guwahati, and the Shillong airport in Umroi.
The association also urged the government to have a Tourism and Permit Issuing Authority Check Points at the entry point of the tourist sites.
Last week the AKMTTA has written an open letter to the Chief Minister bringing his attention the pressing livelihood issues faced by the Tourist Taxi owners and drivers of the Khasi Jaiñtia region.
The association had said it did not seek any ban on the entry of vehicles from other states to Meghalaya but only wanted the commercial vehicles to drop the tourists in designated spots and that the local cabbies should take the tourists to the tourist spots.
