The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Wednesday recovered three more bodies, including that of a one year old baby drowned in Tihiang River after a jeep they were travelling in was swept away by the strong river current.
South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Maxwell B Syiem informed that the bodies of Balamanbha L Mawlot (16), Ibashisha Lyngdoh (24) and her one year old Daman Lyngdoh were recovered three kilometers downstream of the river.
Syiem said the search and rescue operations with the joint efforts of the Fire and Emergency Service and the SDRF is underway to track two more missing persons-Ferdinand Myrthong (45) and Lapynshai L Mawlot (13).
Eight people were travelling in a jeep from Mawjai village in Warsan Lyngdoh area to Mawkyrwat on Tuesday. Due to heavy rains, the culvert was washed away that brought the tragic incident.
While two managed to swim away to safety, the rescue team who swung into action after the incident managed to fish the body of Ladianghun L Mawlot (42) on Tuesday.
