A house in Umkiang located along the Indo-Bangladesh border was looted by a thief, allegedly from Bangladesh, who fled with two mobile phones, slippers, umbrellas and a sack of arecanut.
The incident occurred on Monday in the wee hours at the residence of one Ribon Pohshna.
According to reports, Pohshna and her family were asleep when the thief, armed with a dagger dressed in a half sleeve shirt and a lungi, entered the house at around 3 am. Taking advantage of the situation, he stole two mobile phones that belonged to her and her husband, David Munda.
Poshna said she was able to alert villagers once he fled her home. The thief had to drop the sack of arecanut after a hot pursuit by villagers, who suspected that there were around four Bangladeshis who had entered the village to commit the crime.
The matter was reported to the Umkiang Police Patrol Post.
