Leader of the opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma, today said that other political parties will always aim to weaken the Congress but the party will continue to defy their plans.
“It is their agenda, it is expected, that is why you saw one of our elected members (Martin Danggo) fall victim and resign from the party membership,” Dr Sangma said.
He was reacting to reports that there is a move to split the Meghalaya Congress before the state elections expected in 2023.
Danggo had joined the National People’s Party (NPP) after quitting the Congress when the party was shunted into opposition following the 2018 polls but embarrassingly lost the by-election to the United Democratic Party’s Pius Marwein.
“The attempts will go on but we know how to navigate, we know how to keep our fold together and we know what to do when elections are near,” Dr Sangma stated, adding that leaders will come and go but the party will always remain.
