The State government today told the Meghalaya High Court that there is still room for a negotiated settlement for relocation of the residents of Them Ïew Mawlong to the Shillong Muncipal Board land at Bivar Road here.
During today’s hearing on the matter, the State government sought time to settle the relocation issue with the Harijan Panchayat Committee.
“In view of such submission, the parties are requested to resolve the issue once and for all, since the matter has been hanging fire for several years,” the High Court said.
The court also asked the State government to file a report indicating the progress made when the matter appears at the next hearing on November 8.
Meanwhile, the High Court also said that every endeavour has to be made by both the State government and the HPC to ensure that the issues are resolved within this year.
