Though only in a short span of just three years and two months the fledgling Voice of the People Party has displayed its extraordinary rise in the Meghalaya political scenario as compared to the other regional parties (nay local parties) in the state. It has displayed it’s calibre in 2023 in the L.A elections, in 2024 M.P elections and in the just concluded District Council elections to the Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills. The party might have bask itself in its great feat of achievement and its rank and file together with its supporters might have displayed their hysteria and felt proud this victory. Yes, they must be overjoyed and felt proud about their extraordinary political feat but they must concentrate on the path ahead ahead for the way is very hard, long, tedious, tortuous and treacherous as well if they have to focus and achieve the real goal of Clean Politics of humility, honesty, transparency, accountability and above all, probity in public life. All these qualities contribute to Clean Politics.We all hope that in the days, weeks, months and years ahead the VPP should remember that these qualities ought to constantly remind itself that the bedrock of the party depends on these qualities of Clean Politics which voters rely upon for the massive support to VPP to clean Meghalaya deep seated corrupt system of politics and the so called “High Level Politics”. The old saying that new broom sweeps well, I and all of us let us hope and pray that the New Broom of VPP will clean and clear the huge mountain of rotten garbage in the Khasi Hills District council deposited over the last 73 running years.
