The Dorbar Shnong of Thangskai and Jaiñtia Students’ Union (JSU) today met to discuss on the reported disqualification of one Ayush Kumar from the list of selected candidates for MBBS state quota.
Kumar is one of the candidates earlier selected for MBBS study in the open category and waiting list, which the Khasi Students Union had objected to, since he had submitted documents which are incomplete and dubious in nature and not as per the criteria set by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS).
It was reported that the Waheh Shnong of Thangskai in 2021 had issued a temporary residential certificate to Kumar for the purpose of showing his present stay of address to a college in Odisha where he was studying.
When his name featured in the list, the dorbar and the JSU had sought the intervention of Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh to disqualify him as he was not a permanent resident of the village.
During the meeting, the dorbar thanked the JSU for its support. Leaders of the JSU urged the dorbars in Jaiñtia Hills region to be cautious while issuing any certificates that would jeopardise the future of the people.
