To celebrate Van Mahotsav, the annual festival of trees, 119 Infantry Battalion, (TA) Territorial Army, in collaboration with the State forest department held a tree plantation drive today at Kenchs Trace.
The event is aimed to raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation and encourage active participation in tree planting efforts.
Van Mahotsav is an annual celebration held in India during the first week of July. It serves as a platform to promote the significance of trees in maintaining ecological balance and improving the overall environment.
Saplings of indigenous tree species were selected to ensure ecological suitability and to enhance biodiversity in the region.
The drive also served as an educational opportunity for participants, as environmental experts CP Marak, Indian Forest Service IFS (Retd) and H Lato, Indian Forest Service IFS, District Forest Officer (DFO) shared insights into the importance of tree plantation, the benefits of green space, and sustainable practices for maintaining a healthy environment.
By organizing such tree plantation drives, the Territorial Army aims to foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment and encourage sustainable practices among the community.
