Residents of Gasbari, a village in West Garo Hills, have protested to the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer of Dadenggre over the appointment of a primary school teacher who, they claim, was appointed without following relevant norms.
The villagers who signed the letter alleged that Karimul Islam, a resident of Varal Gaon in Rajabala, was appointed as an assistant teacher at Gasbari Non-Govt Lower Primary School recently without passing the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET) or following other norms.
The complaint was signed by the Gaonbura, other village leaders, All Meghalaya Minority Student Union members, other NGO members and members of the public calling for the removal of Islam.
The signatories stated that the school’s headmaster, Shohidur Rahman, and the school managing committee had “illegally and unlawfully” appointed Islam without the knowledge of the complainants and without any advertisement for the post issued.
