An intensified 100 Day TB elimination campaign was held at Sonamite under Rangsakhona PHC, South West Garo Hills which was attended by about 130 people.
West Garo Hills District Tuberculosis Officer, Dr. Riksilchi Sangma spoke about TB, its symptoms, causes and its prevention. She highlighted the campaign and its free services for community people to strengthen diagnosis and treatment services, particularly for most vulnerable groups, which includes-Diabetes, HIV, those people who are 60 years and above, malnutrition, alcoholic etc.
Dr Sangma encouraged the people to become Nikshay Mitra as all patients need a good nutritional Diet.
Rangsakhona MLA Subir M Marak appealed to the general public to take the free services that are being provided to the people of the area by the department of Health and Family Welfare and to cooperate with District TB Centre Tura and to support TB patients.
He also urged the public not to discriminate and stigmatise anyone they met who is suffering from this disease, but to help and motivate them to complete treatment, for a TB Free society.
In Bhaitbari CHC, the campaign was attended by Rajabala MLA Dr. Mizanur Rahman Kaji who emphasised on the importance of early detection and consistent treatment in combating TB, highlighting that timely medical intervention for effective management and prevention of the disease.
He also introduced the Nikshay Mitra initiative, a program designed to support TB patients by providing nutritional assistance, counseling, and vocational training. He encouraged community members to participate in this initiative, underscoring the collective responsibility in the fight against TB.
More than 90 people were also screened during a camp and food was distributed to 32 patients under Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.
