The Department of English, NEHU Shillong in collaboration with ICSSRNERC organised a special talk by Prof. Ranjan Ghosh, an eminent academician of international repute and a teacher at North Bengal University on December 13.
Ghosh delivered a talk on his latest book ‘The Plastic Turn’ and focused on critical theory, comparative literature, philosophy of history and education, cultural theory, and plastic studies.
With seventeen critical books and over a hundred papers published in the prestigious journals of the world, Ghosh’s recent works also include Thinking Literature across Continents and Plastic Tagore.
The talk delved into his perspective on plastic arts, aiming to expand its traditional confinement to aesthetics. He introduced two key aspects—the view of plastic arts beyond conventional representations, incorporating eco-earth art, executed through material plastic and the broadening of understanding through critical thinking, interdisciplinary negotiations, and the concept of the ‘transliterary’.
Prof. Jyotirmoy Prodhani, Head of the English Department described Ghosh as an outstanding academic scholar of the country and announced further academic engagements with him in the department.
