Ten pigs at a cooperative society have died in recent days, as yet due to unknown causes, which sparked fears for pig farmers in Ri-Bhoi.
The fatalities have all been recorded at the Nangku Chaphrang Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Saiden.
Ominous signs that something was not right with the animals included fever and sudden loss of appetite. These symptoms worsened quickly and resulted in death, leading the person in charge to alert the Veterinary Department in Nongpoh, which then dispatched a team of experts to conduct post-mortem examinations on the animals.
However, the precise cause of death remains a mystery as the autopsies did not yield definitive answers.
