Shillong, Apr 15: The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya frontier saved the life of an injured 10-year-old girl who accidentally came into contact with a live electric pole at a civil construction site near the Rongra River, in the Garo Hills region.
The BSF in a statement today said the incident happened on April 7 at approximately 11:30 am.
Following a distress call, troops from BOP Rongra rushed to the scene and demonstrated exceptional presence of mind by promptly notifying the local electricity department to disconnect the power supply, it said.
The injured girl, Nikhami N. Marak, daughter of Lithon D. Sangma, resident of Rongra Bolgiske village was taken to the Rongra Primary Health Centre (PHC) for initial treatment. After receiving first aid, she was referred for further medical attention and transported to Baghmara Government Hospital in a BSF ambulance.
The injured child was accompanied by a nursing assistant of the BSF and her family members.
