St Claret Higher Secondary School won all three titles in the District-Level Subroto Mukherjee Football Tournament 2025 in South West Garo Hills today.

Meanwhile, honours were shared evenly in East Jaintia Hills, with Musniang Secondary School, Wapung HSS and Lotus SS Deinshynrum winning the U-15 boys’, U-17 boys’ and U-17 girls’ titles this year.

The district winners will vie for the state title to be contested later.

In Ampati, St Claret edged Future Foundation 2-1 in the U-17 boys’ final, while the U-17 girls’ team defeated Birin Nuchong SS 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout. It was plain sailing in the U-15 boys’ category, however, with a 11-5 scoreline against Emmanuel English School.

Individual brilliance was also recognised, with all Best Player awards going to St Claret athletes – Arlundsky D Sangma (U-17 boys), Jreamme G Momin (U-17 girls) and Alpinson Arengh (U-15 boys).

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Dolrich BG Momin, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Zanera Marak, District Social Welfare Officer.

The tournament was organized in a joint initiative by the District Social Welfare Office and the District Sports Office of South West Garo Hills under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, also aligning with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. All attendees took a pledge to stand against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

A total of 13 teams participated in the tournament, five teams each in the U-17 boys’ and girls’ categories and three teams in the U-15 boys’ category.

Meanwhile, at Deinshynrum Football Ground, Musniang SS defeated KB Memorial SS Wapung 3-0 in the U-15 boys’ category. In the U-17 boys’ final, Wapung HSS defeated Sein Jait Tuber HSS 4-0, while the girls’ title went to Lotus SS who defeated Sanshnong SS 2-0 in a tiebreaker.

Individual Best Player awards went to Everlasting Dkhar of Musniang SS in the U-15 boys’ category, Daemitre Rymbai of Sein Jait Tuber HSS in the U-17 boys’ and Thehlut Sana of Sanshnong SS in the U-17 girls’ categories respectively.

The closing ceremony of this year’s tournament was attended by Rymbai-Khliehriat MDC Violet Lyngdoh, Additional Superintendent of Police S Paslein, District Sports Officer Stephanie M Rasang, school principals, teachers and others.
