Shillong, Nov 2: Police in Ri-Bhoi are undertaking a high profile campaign against traffic violators and stepped up their efforts with an AI-aided video purporting to show US President Donald Trump shaking hands with the police personnel on duty.
The police’s social media handles are known for their wit and engaging content but this was another level altogether.
“POTUS (President of the United States) was travelling in a “Slow Moving” Truck in “Right Lane” when he was stopped near Umnget and e-challan was issued. After being briefed about traffic rules, he thanked the police team for the efforts. Looks like we will get Nobel Prize for Road Safety next year!” the police’s post this evening read.
One of the traffic rules the Ri-Bhoi police have been emphasising of late is that slow-moving vehicles should not occupy the right lane in a multi-lane road but should instead stick to the left. This is a rule broken not just in Ri-Bhoi or Meghalaya but throughout India.
What the real Donald Trump would think of such a video we cannot know. However, he does not take perceived insults lying down. He even recently cancelled trade talks with Canada and said he would impose an additional 10 percent tariff on Canadian imports in response to an anti-tariff advert that he did not appreciate.
Ri-Bhoi Police are running the risk of being slapped with a penalty of their own by the most powerful – and perhaps erratic – man in the world. Asked by a member of the public on Facebook whether Trump was driving the offending truck, the police responded “Off course. He drives the whole world (crazy) these days.” The parentheses were in the original and the cops even added a laughing emoji to the reply.
