The Jaiñtia Coordination Committee for Reservation Policy (JCCRP) today made their submission before the members of the expert committee on the State Reservation Policy, asking for 80 per cent reservation for all the three tribes-Khasi, Jaintia and Garo.
The JCCRP comprises of the Jaiñtia Students Union (JSU), Jaiñtia National Council (JNC), Jaiñtia Youth Federation (JYF), Jaiñtia Students Movement (JSM) and the Synjuk ki Waheh Shnong Ri Jaiñtia.
Chairman of JCCRP Jershom Shylla said their suggestion will bring out the competitive spirit among job seekers. He said a uniform reservation mechanism should be based on merit.
The committee also suggested amendment to the Constitution (Schedule Tribes) Order 1950 relating to Meghalaya and raised concerns over inclusion of other non-indigenous tribes in the list of schedule tribes in the State.
