The Chairman of the Meghalaya State Food Commission (MSFC), PS Thangkhiew, held a review meeting with all Deputy Commissioner and District Grievances Redressal Officers of the Garo Hills region in Tura yesterday.
The meeting was held in order to review the status and progress of the commission’s activities, including the functioning of the Grievances Redressal Mechanism and Vigilance Committees in the five districts.
Initiating the discussion, Thangkhiew briefed the members about the purpose of setting up the MSFC and informed that the review meeting is necessary in order to discuss and ensure compliance of the provisions of the act and also to supervise the mandate of looking after the implementation of Midday Meal Scheme and other nutritional programmes in the districts.
MSFC Secretary Sabrella Marak recounted specifics from the action taken report, including the setting up of National Food Security Act cells, finalization of block-wise social audit calendar, automation of fair price shops and computerization of supply chains, issuance of one-time ration cards and inspection and maintenance of records in fair price shops.
