A stakeholder meeting was held here yesterday to unveil two studies conducted by NEDFI Ltd under its Techno Economic Development Fund.
The studies focus on ‘Urban Renewal in Towns and Cities of Meghalaya’ and ‘Status of Investment by Private Sector in Tourism in Meghalaya’.
The urban renewal study aims to provide strategies, recommendations and measures for sustainable urban growth and development in Meghalaya. Its primary goal is to help achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 in the state’s urban local bodies, including census towns, by developing a project pipeline.
The tourism investment study offers an analysis of Meghalaya’s tourism landscape, identifying potential tourism areas, evaluating investment trends and examining challenges faced by private investors. It highlights employment opportunities, capacity-building needs and community-based tourism initiatives, with strategies and policy recommendations.
The meeting was chaired by Cyril V Darlong Diengdoh, Commissioner and Secretary inn the Planning, Investment Promotion and Sustainable Development Department.
Stakeholders and senior officials from various departments, including Transport, Tourism, Urban Affairs and Police, attended the meeting.
Other attendees included tour operators, the Directorate of Housing, Federation of Shillong Hotels and the NEDFi team.
