St. Anthony’s College, Shillong today hosted its Graduation Day Ceremony to honour and celebrate the achievements of the graduates with six PhD degrees and 132 rank holders in different disciplines.
A standout moment of the graduation ceremony was the celebration of the achievements of Skhemboklang Lyting, who supported his own studies by selling newspapers and running a small shop.
Skhemboklang was selected as the valedictorian among the graduates of 2024.
A student of the Department of Philosophy, Skhemboklang joined Evening College, which is run by the St. Anthony’s Alumni Association for students from financially weak backgrounds.
Growing up in a struggling household, Skhemboklang was inspired by his mother, who ran a small roadside shop, to never give up on education despite multiple school dropouts and interruptions.
He overcame significant financial and personal hardships to achieve a 72 per cent in his graduation.
Despite losing his mother to cancer during his second year of college, Skhemboklang continued his education and joined St Anthony’s College Centre for Entrepreneurship Innovation and Incubation and expanding his small business into multiple ventures.
During the ceremony, Professor Anjan Das from the Department of Computer Science was recognised for completing 25 years of dedicated service.
Director of School Education and Literacy Swapnil Tembe delivered the keynote address, joining the institution in recognizing the hard work and accomplishments of the graduating students.
