Shillong, Sep 21: Meghalaya Police soundly defeated bottom side Mylliem 5-0 in the Shillong Premier League 2026 at the SSA Stadium here today.
Balmingstar Lyngkhoi (4’, 31’, 68’) produced a hat-trick, Everestarly Rynjah (61’) scored one and Fedrick Wahlang (77’) conceded an own goal.
So tight is the race in the standings that the 3 points did wonders for MLP, lifting them from eighth to third place in a single bound. They are currently tied with Langsning but have head-to-head advantage over the defending champions. Mylliem, on the other hand, remain at the bottom with 1 point from six matches and are staring at the very real possibility of relegation.
Fedrick had an unwilling hand in the first goal as well as the last. In the opener the Mylliem defender was aiming a back pass but the ball did not get to goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh as it was slowed down by the wet outfield. Balmingstar leapt at the chance and scored, placing the ball wide of the keeper.
The policeman bagged his second goal less than half an hour later after the ball was fed to Rapborlang Marwein, on the right flank, who then crossed for Balmingstar to head it in.
Evereststarly got the next goal in for MLP, tapping in after Bisharlang Kharumnuid sent the ball into the box from the left, and a few minutes later it was the turn of Balmingstar’s hat-trick goal.
This was a poor piece of work from Mylliem, with Wanpynshngain Nongsteng gifting the ball away and Balming’s shot slipped through Rihoklang’s gloves as if the ball were made of butter.
The final goal came about when Rapbor delivered a cross into the box looking for a teammate. Sliding in trying to cut it off, Fedrick inadvertently put the ball into his own net.
Fedrick did have at least one good moment earlier on when he denied Everestarly by throwing his body into the path of a shot on target. In attack Mylliem were nowhere, which is surprising given the strong showing they produced in the 3-3 draw with Shillong Lajong last time out.
Although he did not have much to do, this match marked a clean sheet on debut for MLP goalkeeper Basuklang Nongsiej. This was also the first game in which the police have not conceded a goal.
Tomorrow, Langsning will be able to go to the top of the table when they face Nangkiew Irat at 3pm.
