The Meghalaya police today signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Bank of India to enable digital payments of fines by traffic violators in the state capital.
The ‘e-challan’ system, which will be launched in the days to come by the Shillong Traffic Police, will allow police to pull up details of violators – such as vehicle and driver details – through the application, thereby reducing the amount of time it takes to issue a fine.
Additionally, the system will also allow for fines to be paid on the spot through cash payments or by debit card, as traffic officials will be equipped with point-of-sale machines.
