Shillong, Jun 14: Former Deputy Chief Minister Bindo Lanong has said that coal mining protestors should place their grievances before the state government and the latter should be able to resolve the problem.
“The solution to this problem lies with the state government. The Supreme Court has stated its law on the matter that this should be the policy on mining. Now it lies with the state government how to help the small miners within that policy. If the state does not address the problem then the small miners will continue to face inconvenience,” he told HP.
Lanong said the state government has to frame rules for the small miners and land holders and how to assist them under the purview of the Supreme Court order.
“I suggest the government of Meghalaya under the proviso of the Supreme Court order should look into the matter of small miners – how to create space and not to neglect them,” he stated.
