After 28 years, Sohra again received the record-breaking rainfall today.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Sohra recorded 166 mm rainfall till 8:30 am today.
The IMD also mentioned that Sohra received a generous 972 mm of precipitation in June last year, the most since June 1995 and the third highest in 122 years.
Sohra has nine times, since the IMD began collecting statistics in 1901, reported more than 800 mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the IMD bulletin, in northeast India, there is a forecast of light to moderate rainfall to fairly widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning, with isolated heavy rainfall activity over the region during the next five days.
“Isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday ,and Assam and Meghalaya on Sunday and Monday with extremely heavy falls on Sunday over Assam and Meghalaya,” it said.
