The voter turnout in Sohiong Assembly Constituency, which went for polls today recorded 91. 87 per cent till 6 pm, Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor said.
He informed that the percentage was higher compared to the previous election which was 90. 46 per cent.
While polling was peaceful, the excise department made one of the biggest seizures at 2 pm during deferred polls. He said 1,104 litres of liquor valued at Rs 4 lakhs was seized.
There are six candidates are in the fray for the seat – Synshar Lyngdoh Thabah of the UDP, Malngiang of the NPP, S Osborne Kharjana from Congress, Sandondor Ryntathiang of the HSPDP, Seraph E Kharbuki of the BJP, and Stodingstar Thabah from the Trinamool Congress.
Polling in Sohiong was adjourned after the demise of United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate HDR Lyngdoh on February 20, one week before the state elections.
