Two members of the Dhar family who are cabinet ministers in the present MDA government remain the richest candidates in this Assembly election in the State.
As per the affidavits filed before the election authorities, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has moveable assets which include money in various bank accounts, investments and vehicles totally worth over Rs 1.39 crore.
Dhar’s wife Rimiful Shylla has moveable assets worth over Rs 19.18 crore. These include 38 vehicles which also comprise many road construction vehicles.
His immoveable assets which include houses and lands are worth Rs 8.15 crore. His wife has immoveable assets worth 16.63 crore.
Dhar’s nephew Dasakhiat Lamare who is also a minister in this government has moveable assets worth Rs 8.56 crore. These include 15 vehicles. He has lands and houses worth Rs 37.29 crore.
Lamare is the son of Sniawbhalang’s brother and former Umroi MLA Ngaitlang Dhar.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has moveable assets (cash, investment and vehicles) worth over Rs 1.41 crore.
His wife Mehtab Chandee Sangma has moveable assets worth over Rs 2.90 crore. His two children have Rs 8 lakh each.
Conrad’s immoveable inherited assets and valued at over Rs 49 lakh while his self acquired immoveable assets are worth over Rs 5.85 crore. His wife has immoveable assets worth Rs 3.25 crore.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong is also in the rich candidates list. He has moveable assets worth over Rs 1.80 crore.
Tynsong’s wife Anjella M. Kharsyntiew has moveable assets worth nearly Rs 1.98 crore.
His daughter Aroma Daisy Kharsyntiew has moveable assets worth over Rs 62.63 lakh while his son Javen Wilson P. Kharsyntiew has moveable assets worth over Rs 13.59 lakh.
As far as immoveable assets are concerned, Tynsong has lands and houses valued at Rs 1 crore while his wife has lands and houses worth Rs 3.60 crore. His daughter has immoveable assets worth Rs 85 lakh and his son’s immoveable assets are valued at Rs 2.30 crore.
Cabinet minister Brolding Nongsiej who is the UDP candidate from Mawthadraishan has moveable assets worth over Rs 1.99 crore.
His wife Shekeldaris Syiem has moveable assets worth Rs 55.22 lakh. His son Memang Kyrpang Syiem has moveable assets worth Rs 1.74 crore.
Besides this, Nongsiej also has lands and houses worth over Rs 3.40 crore. His wife has immoveable assets worth over Rs 4.55 crore.
Another cabinet minister and UDP candidate from Khliehriat constituency, Kyrmen Shylla has moveable assets worth Rs 1.95 crore. He has no land or buildings registered in his name.
The asset details of other ministers are expected to be available in the coming days after they filed their nominations.
In the 2018 Assembly elections, 39 out of 59 candidates who got elected have individual wealth of over Rs 1 crore.
According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), seven MLAs did not declare their sources of income.
Of the winning legislators, 23 had declared assets over Rs 5 crore while five had assets below Rs 5 lakh.
The report also stated that the average of assets per MLA contesting the 2018 Assembly elections is Rs 7.18 crore.
