There were a record 941 new recoveries from coronavirus recorded today in Meghalaya but also 20 Covid-related deaths and 731 new cases.
The massive number of recoveries took the recovery rate up to 74.67 percent. The rolling average of new infections (on a seven-day basis) also improved for the third day running; it now stands at 868.57, a fall of 13.86 compared to yesterday.
A milestone was reached today, with May’s total of Covid cases reaching 16,989, which, in one month, has overtaken the 16,846 that the state recorded from April 2020 to April 2021.
Seventeen fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one each in West Jaintia Hills, West Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi. Fourteen had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death. The others were brought dead to hospital.
The deceased were identified as Mommilis Gatphoh (53) of Lummawrie Laitumkhrah, Biphora Masharing (53) of Kyrdem, Riphilin Kharumnuid (70) of Smit, Liril Mawlong (50) of Mawmaram Kyllang, Perlimai Syiem (87) of Jaiaw Lumsyntiew, Dasten Nongrum (71) of Laitkor, Melda C Shongwan (37) of Malki, Donnam Kharbyngar (44) of Smit, Hesterwell Marbaniang (64) of Laitryngew, Teacherwell Dkhar (60) of Riat Laban, Elaidaimary Boro (43) of Lummawrie Laitumkhrah, Ioanis Lyngdoh (40) of Nongrimbah, Sriniola Thabah (70) of Umpling Dongsharum, Amar B Chettri (45) of Upper Lachumiere, Necodemus Majaw (50) of Mawlai, Rajendra Rai (45) of Happy Valley, Ialetsha Kharkongor (40) of Upper Shillong, Branson Nongsiej (67) of Mawlai Motsyiar, Lorthsent Ch Marak (43) of Chandmary and Jiten (65) of Iawmusiang.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 346 of today’s reported infections (its lowest tally since May 16), including two health workers, three police personnel, 14 in Laitkor, 19 in Madanrting, 49 in Mawlai, 14 in Nongrah, 17 in Nongspung, 14 in Nongthymmai, 11 in Polo, 10 in Sunny Hill and 193 in various other neighbourhood clusters and categories.
Ri-Bhoi reported 147 new cases (including 12 in Mawdiangum, 13 in Mawlyngkhung, 32 in Umdamil), West Garo Hills 69 (including two police, 17 in Edenbari), West Jaintia Hills 32 (including two police), South West Garo Hills 27 (including one police, one health worker), West Khasi Hills 27 (including four health workers), East Jaintia Hills 27 (including one health worker, 10 in Lad Rymbai), South West Khasi Hills 21 (including one health worker, 10 in Kolomboit), East Garo Hills 15 (including one health worker), South Garo Hills 11 (including eight police) and North Garo Hills nine (including one health worker).
There were also 941 recoveries today – 661 in East Khasi Hills, 70 in West Garo Hills, 61 in Ri-Bhoi, 46 in South West Garo Hills, 26 in East Jaintia Hills, 23 in West Khasi Hills, 22 in East Garo Hills, 12 in South Garo Hills, 10 in North Garo Hills, seven in West Jaintia Hills and three in South West Khasi Hills.
There are now 8,025 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,884 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,310, West Garo Hills 654, West Jaintia Hills 641, South West Garo Hills 414, East Jaintia Hills 228, South West Khasi Hills 227, West Khasi Hills 204, North Garo Hills 172, South Garo Hills 146 and East Garo Hills 145.
In all, Meghalaya has had 33,835 Covid-19 cases, of which 8,025 are active, 25,266 have recovered and 544 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 74.67 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.61 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 868.57.
