The relatively short ongoing Assembly session is proof that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government is only concerned with its own wants and not those of the general public, opposition MLA Adelbert Nongrum has told Highland Post.
“We would like to speak on many crucial issues affecting the public but we fear that the members will not even get an opportunity to raise the issues when only two days have been given to the private members in this autumn session,” he said today, adding that this is the strategy of the MDA government.
According to the North Shillong legislator, matters such as the Inner Line Permit (ILP) demand, physical migrant checking facilities, rising cases of drug abuse and trafficking, begging and theft are among those that are important and must be dealt with.
Nongrum further said that anything that does not work for the betterment of the people of the state needs to be reviewed and politicians cannot dupe the people only when elections come.
