Construction of the Shillong – Dawki road (44 km) at a cost of Rs 970 crore will be completed by April 2024.
This was stated by Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari at election rallies in Baghmara and Ranikor yesterday.
“This will ease the travel for tourists who wish to visit the crystal clear Umngot river,” he said.
Gadkari also listed a number of road projects which are nearing completion and also those which are in the pipeline.
According to him, construction of the Nongstoin to Wahkaji two-lane paved shoulder road (43 km) at a cost of Rs 302 crore will be completed by August this year.
The Union minister also informed that construction of the Nongstoin to Kyrshai two-lane paved shoulder road (33 km) at a cost of Rs 360 crore will be completed by May 2024.
Similarly, he said that construction of a 15 km Dawki to Jowai road at a cost of Rs 43 crore will be completed by November this year.
Gadkari also said that since West Jaintia Hills is an important cultural and tourism destination, road connectivity will be provided to the beautiful Krang Suri Falls.
He also said that construction of Ranikor to Baghmara two-lane paved shoulder road (130 km) at a cost of Rs 1300 crore will be completed by October 2024.
“The road is very important from a tourism point of view. The road is being constructed in five packages,” the Union minister said.
He also said that the DPR for construction of the four-lane Western Bypass (38 km) at a cost of Rs 2061 crore will be completed by April this year.
“The construction of this bypass will ease the congestion within Shillong city as traffic coming from Guwahati will be diverted outside of the city,” Gadkari said.
The DPR for construction of the four-lane Eastern Bypass (40 km) at a cost of Rs 1500 crore will be completed by October this year.
The Union minister also said that the detailed project report (DPR) for construction of Mawryngkneng to Jaintia Hills four-lane road (127 km) at a cost of Rs 4850 crore will be completed by October this year.
At the same time, the DPR for construction of Shillong four-lane Bypass (78 km) at a cost of Rs 3561 crore is being prepared.
As far as Garo Hills is concerned, Gadkari said that the DPR for construction of Dainadubi to Williamnagar four-lane road (80 km) at a cost of Rs 4350 crore to be completed by July this year.
“This will improve connectivity as it is a major route for coal transport,” Gadkari said.
The DPR for construction of two-lane paved shoulder Tura Bypass (28 km) at a cost of Rs 992 crore will be completed by December this year.
Further, construction of Tura to Dalu two-lane paved shoulder road (51 km) at a cost of Rs 553 crore will be completed by March 2024.
Gadkari also said that an important bridge is being constructed on the Brahmaputra River from Phulbari in Meghalaya to Dhubri in Assam at a cost of Rs 5000 crore. With the construction of this bridge, the distance from Phulbari to Dhubri will be reduced by 203 kms.
