NPP has rebutted the claims of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) that the Congress leadership in Meghalaya has transformed the party into a B team of the NPP and C team of the BJP.
According to the NPP spokesperson Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang, this allegation is only a figment of imagination bereft of facts.
“The NPP won the 2023 Assembly elections due to the overwhelming support of the people of the State based on the developmental work that the party has done in the last five years from 2018 to 2023,” Shangpliang said.
He said that the NPP has blossomed with the support of the people because it dared to address the long pending issues of the state that were left unattended and does not resort to mere hollow rhetoric.
The NPP spokesperson also said that the party is working hard to achieve a resounding victory in both the parliamentary seats in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections and is positively looking forward to continuing its developmental agendas for the people and transformation of the State.
VPP spokesperson Batskhem Myrboh recently said that it is an acknowledged fact that the NPP in Meghalaya could have survived and succeeded only if the Congress was weakened.
Myrboh said that the Sangmas of the NPP would have thanked the Congress MP Vincent Pala profusely for being able to come back to power simply because of the fact that the Congress was completely weakened internally.
The VPP spokesperson said that Pala was more friendly with leaders of the NPP than those from his own party.
Myrboh even recalled that after Agatha Sangma won the Lok Sabha bye-election in 2018, Pala personally paid a visit to congratulate her, showing how close they were in reality.
Pointing out that under Pala’s leadership, the Congress party supported the NPP in the KHADC, Myrboh suspected that Pala’s defeat in last year’s Assembly election could have been planned to help the NPP return to power in the State.
