The All Selsella NGOs Alliance has written to the SSA District Mission Coordinator to object to the appointment of two non-tribals as Block Resource Persons (BRPs) for the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’s (SSA) Selsella Block Resource Centre (BRC).
The pressure groups claimed that neither person is a local resident of Selsella nor of the Garo community. The alliance argued that there are many qualified locals who would be a good fit for the role and not to appoint them would hinder the grassroots work of the BRC.
“We believe that local candidates are more capable of understanding the unique needs, language and socio-cultural context of the people of Selsella,” the letter said. “Appointing non-locals will not only demoralise local aspirants but may also lead to ineffective implementation of schemes meant for our region.”
Therefore, the alliance demanded fresh recruitment for the two BR posts in Selsella BRC, giving preference to local candidates who are permanently residing in and originally from Selsella. “This is essential for fair representation and to uphold the trust and cooperation of the local communities with the SSA framework.”
