Impressed and grateful for the Chief Minister’s recent instruction to speed up the work on the Williamnagar Town bridge in the East Garo Hills district headquarters, the Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS) organisation has sought for the CM’s intervention on the Rongpi and Rongbingre bridges.
Work on these two bridges has been slow going despite the vital role these will play for commuters, transporters, etc.
GHYS wants the CM and local MLA to issue a warning similar to the one the contractor of the Williamnagar bridge received to expedite construction.
The Rongpi bridge work began in 2021 and its incompleteness is causing problems for students, sick patients and villagers, who rely on it to cross the river daily. The absence of an alternative bridge forces them to resort to dangerous measures during the rainy season, such as swimming or using makeshift boats.
The timely completion of Rongbinggre bridge, which has also been pending for a long time (though the GHYS did not specify how long), is also crucial for the local population.
