A national seminar on “Quality and Relevance of Higher Education in India” organized by IQAC, Women’s College and sponsored by RUSA concluded today.
The spirit of the seminar, focused on various aspects of higher education and learning which continued into to be focused on the second day as well.
A total of four technical sessions in a blended mode were held in the course of the two day seminar in which 18 papers were presented by several scholars from both the Region and from the other institutions of the country.
On the second day of the seminar Sonal V. Misra, IG of CRPF, NES was the chief guest of the programme. In her address she spoke about the importance of the continuation of girls’ education even after their marriage as girls education invariably gets disrupted because of family responsibilities after marriages.
She further stressed on the fact that pursuing of higher education becomes problematic not only for women but also for men and this aspect needs to be looked into for a reformed and progressive society.
Prof. Bhagirathi Panda from the Department of Economics NEHU in his valedictory speech focused on the fact that higher education in India has a lot of challenges which must be overcome in order to rise up to a global standard which is the need of the hour.
In a joint paper presented by Dr Badskhem Myrboh from the department of political science, Synod college and Prof. Susmita Sen Gupta from the department of political science NEHU, Shillong pointed out the presence of various lacuna which creates immense confusion in granting of aids and status to various institutions of higher education, the lack of parity in the higher educational structure specially in the state of Meghalaya which needs an urgent attention and focus.
Other issues highlighted were the need of skills specially ICT skill that could be incorporated for better teaching and learning experience, the issue of gender equity in the realm of higher education was also addressed by the presenters.
