Security at the residence of Trinamool Congress leader Dr. Mukul Sangma at Upper Nongrim Hills here has been tightened following alleged threat to his life.
The former chief minister claimed that some NPP supporters have threatened his life.
In a letter to Chief Secretary Donald P. Wahlang yesterday, Dr. Sangma said that certain NPP supporters had threatened to set his home on fire as punishment for the ongoing political events and moves to form the government.
“Deliberate incitement to spread hatred and do personal harm upon me is being aggressively done. People engaged in the criminal conspiracy are inciting to create communal riots and personal harm to me. Just reported to the CS to take action as per law,” Dr. Sangma said.
Dr. Sangma received the threats as he held talks with Congress and other regional parties to form the next government minus NPP and BJP.
According to sources, one social media user on Facebook encouraged people to visit Dr. Sangma’s home and throw stones and burn his effigies. A few others also wrote in favour of such violence against him.
