Inter-school quizzes were organised in the state as part of the North East Festival 2022 and celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mohotsav (AKAM).
In Jowai, one was organised by the office of the District School Education Officer of West Jaintia Hills today.
Seven schools – North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Thomas Jones HSS, Kiang Nangbah HSS, Government Girls HSS, Government Boys HSS, KJP Synod Mihngi HSS and QC Springside HSS – participated in the competition.
The competition was conducted by quiz master RS Teron, the Block Mission Coordinator.
Government Boys HSS bagged first prize with the team comprising Somanroy Myrchiang and Graceful Mary Phawa, while Government Girls HSS took second place with Safety Care Pohleng and Peruse Ryngkhlem. North Liberty HSS bagged third through Ribait Phawa and Sneinbha Suchiang. The winners were awarded with a trophy and certificates.
Earlier, the DSEO, AP Syiem, and Assistant District Adult Education Officer, AC Roy, briefed the gathering on the purpose of the event and explained the meaning of the celebration of AKAM, which is to recognise 75 years of India’s independence.
In Nongpoh, seven schools from four blocks took part. The teams were named after Meghalaya freedom fighters Pa Togan Sangma, U Tirot Sing, Kiang Nangbah and Phan Nonglait.
First position was bagged by students from Alpha English HSS, with second and third positions taken by Myngken Christian HSS, and Little Flower HSS. Cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 were awarded to the three teams.
The event also witnessed the felicitation of AKAM art and essay winners at the district level.
The winners in the art category were MeECL Secondary School, second Umling HSS and third Jirang Government HSS. In the essay category, first position was clinched by Little Flower HSS.
The dignitaries present were Additional Deputy Commissioner MB Tongper, Extra Assistant Commissioner Weena Yancey Mrenda Momin and others. A total of 83 people, including teachers and students from 13 schools, attended the event.
