The Save Hynniewtrep Mission, a conglomerate of five pressure groups, today organized a public meeting at Umsning, Ri-Bhoi, seeking support from the public over its various demands.
The meeting was held with leaders of the five pressure groups – HYC, CoRP, HANM, EJNC and JSM – in attendance.
The demands include the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), relocation of the residents of Them Iewmawlong, scrapping of the Meghalaya-Assam Phase 1 border agreement and end to “unfair” job recruitment.
The pressure groups promised to launch further agitation if the government does not move on these demands.
HYC general secretary Roy Kupar Synrem called for the revamping of the state’s job reservation policy and attacked the state government over the border deal signed with Assam in March that has alienated many border residents.
