Sankardev College celebrated the finale of its College Week yesterday, culminating a two-week-long event of sports, literary, alumni and extracurricular activities.
Present at the programme was Ardent M Basaiawmoit MLA as the chief guest.
In his address, Basaiawmoit lauded the efforts of the institution and its leadership for raising the standard and quality of education to one of the best in the state. He urged the students to work hard, stay focused and disciplined in their studies and admired the talents showcased at the event.
College principal Eureka FP Lyngdoh, acknowledged the immense talent and potentialities showcased by the students during the eventful college week in her welcome address.
The chief guest felicitated two alumni of the college, Wansalan Dkhar, a second Dan black belt and the first female referee from Meghalaya to officiate at the National Games 2025 taekwondo in Uttarakhand; and Gabriel Madur, who applies practical science and knowledge in indigenous inventions and innovations.
The MLA also released the research publications of the Department of Chemistry and English, as well as Academia, the college magazine. Medals and certificates were awarded to students who excelled in the various events, presented by Prof P Nongkynrih, president of the governing body.
A musical number by two faculty members and a cultural programme featuring college students of 25 North East tribes were among the other highlights.
