Shillong, Sep 24: The Indian Institute of Public Health Shillong (IIPH Shillong) hosted a high-level delegation from Thailand led by Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General, Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.
The delegation included senior officials from the Thai Foreign Ministry and the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, along with representatives from Thammasat University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Prince of Songkla University and Chulalongkorn University.
The visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between Thailand and Northeast India in education, medical science and research.
Welcoming the delegation, IIPH Shillong Registrar Dr Tiameren Jamir highlighted the social, cultural and ecological similarities between Thailand and Northeast India and said the shared public health challenges offer scope for collaboration in research, education and capacity building.
Dean Academics Prof. Melari Shisha Nongrum shared an overview of IIPH Shillong’s work in public health education, research and health-systems strengthening in Meghalaya and the Northeast.
Both sides discussed opportunities for joint research in public health and epidemiology, academic partnerships, faculty and student exchanges and capacity building initiatives.
The visit concluded with an interactive session between the Thai delegation and IIPH Shillong faculty to identify avenues for long-term institutional partnership.
