Shillong, Apr 22: The Departments of Zoology, Botany and Environmental Science of Sankardev College organised a talk to commemorate Earth Day today on the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet’.
The chief guest was Wanshan R Kharkrang, Chief Environmental Engineer of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) and Joint Secretary to the state government.
Speaking on the occasion, Kharkrang focussed on the theme by emphasising the duties and responsibilities of individuals towards protecting Mother Earth.
Others to speak at the event included Head of the Department of Environmental Science, RM Lyngdoh, and college Principal EFP Lyngdoh. The Earth Day pledge was administered by M Kharbyngar, the Vice-Principal. This was followed by a short documentary highlighting key environmental issues.
The program was attended by around 100 participants including students and teachers from across the departments.
