Five security guards who were sacked recently from the College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Science have denied allegations that they were under the influence of alcohol while on duty.
On Monday it was reported that the security staff – Bettiful Lyngdoh, Iaishanlang Kharsahnoh, M Makdoh, Idalin Rani and R Makri – had been working at the institute for 10 years but were terminated from their jobs, according to the Dean, Prof JK Chauhan, because of the negative financial situation that the college finds itself in.
Today it emerged that the Dean had claimed that the five were found under the influence while on duty, a charge the guards denied.
“This allegation made by the Dean is unacceptable and is just a trick to defame the Khasi women,” they said today. “We are shocked because we never received anything in writing when we were terminated but everything was done verbally even though we have been working here for so many years.”
The college is under the Central Agricultural University and is located in Umiam.
