Shillong, Nov 3: The state government will take remedial action after errors were reportedly found in the CM Impact guidebooks for school students.
Launched by the Chief Minister with the aim of helping students in their examination preparations, the errors that have been spotted by teachers are a major embarrassment to the government. The introduction of the guidebooks did correlate with a sharp spike in pass percentages, though there were also plenty of critics who felt that the guidebooks were artificially inflating these figures rather than actually helping Meghalaya’s students learn anything.
Speaking to reporters today, Rymbui said the issue had not yet been brought to his notice (even though it has been reported in the press) but assured immediate intervention once verified. “This has not come to my knowledge, but, having said that, CM Impact is not a book meant to help children just to pass. It is to help children gain knowledge and once they gain knowledge we will surely see an impact in the pass percentage,” the minister stated.
When asked whether the Education Department would review the book, Rymbui clarified that the matter was not merely about a review but about collective responsibility. “It is not a question of review. Any error detected is the responsibility of the government, the publisher and the board which prescribed the book to take corrective measures immediately. Since you have informed me now, I will take prompt action to ensure that any error in the book is corrected. Any knowledge given to children must be true — it should not be false or contain mistakes,” he said.
