After a lot of hue and cry over the delay in disbursal of scholarships for students, the centre has released Rs 148 crore to the State.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui today said that the scholarships for the pre and post matric students, is likely be released to students by next week.
“The central government has released 148 crore this week and by next week we hope we will be able to disburse all scholarships of the pre and post matric students,” he said.
The students’ scholarship is for 2021-2022 session for both undergraduate and post-graduate students of the state.
Yesterday the Trinamool Congress slammed the MDA government for the delay to disburse scholarships to students in the State. TMC Students’ Union president Bansharailang Pyngrope said most students have urged the party to raise the issue with the State government.
Last week, a pressure group in Garo Hills had urged the Chief Minister to look into the delay as many students are waiting for the grant so that they could pay examination fees and other admission-related costs.
