Acting on a specific tip-off, troops from the 4th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya seized clothing items, namely sarees, worth approximately Rs 13 lakh while being smuggled to Bangladesh along the border in East Khasi Hills yesterday.
The seizure was made by BSF personnel from the Pyrdiwah border outpost. The border guards challenged the smugglers, who promptly ditched their goods and fled into the surrounding countryside taking advantage of the thick vegetation and undulating terrain.
The goods were handed over to the concerned customs office for further action.
