Shillong, Oct 10: VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit on Saturday urged party supporters to be firm-minded and determined to ensure that the VPP rules Meghalaya from 2028, just like the forefathers fought to achieve statehood.
Addressing a public meeting at Polo Ground, Shillong, held to garner support for Batskhem Myrboh, the party’s candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, Basaiawmoit said people should not pay heed to the blame games against the VPP, terming it as a sign of progress and the road to victory.
Thousands of supporters attended the meeting.
He said the aim of the VPP is to secure 32 out of 60 seats in 2028 and lead the government.
Basaiawmoit said the party has promised clean politics to the people and has directed all its representatives – MP, MLA and MDC – to utilise various schemes transparently.
He said the representatives of VPP should be different from other parties because in the VPP, it is not about power but about responsibility and does not need any VIP treatment.
He also stressed that the VPP will further strengthen its disciplinary committee.
Meanwhile, VPP candidate Dr Batskhem Myrboh said the party will win the by-election handsomely, maintaining that the wave of the VPP is created by the people themselves.
“The point of the party is a truly substantive democracy, relying on clean governance which is one of the strengths of the party,” he said, adding that India has a lot to learn from Shillong parliamentary politics and from the people of the constituency.
