The State today lost two former politicians, Rowell Lyngdoh and Atul C Marak.
Lyngdoh, who was a former Deputy Chief Minister, passed away today. He was 86.
Lyngdoh was among the first to be elected as MLA after Meghalaya got its statehood in 1972. He represented the Mawkyrwat constituency in South West Khasi Hills district till 2018.
He also served as Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) from April 4, 1992 to March 1, 1993.
Meanwhile, former minister Marak passed away today. He was 78.
Marak had represented Selsella constituency of West Garo Hills in 1988 and 1993 and later became a minister under the Congress government led by Purno A Sangma.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has mourned the death of Marak.
“I along with the people of the State, deeply mourn the demise of eminent politician, Sh Atul Marak. As former Minister, Sh Atul served the people with dedication & humility. He was a valued colleague of my late Father and will always be remembered for his leadership in Garo Hills,” Sangma tweeted.
