Mylliem MDC Ronnie Lyngdoh has encouraged the executive committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to allocate at least 10 percent of infrastructure funding towards the development of school facilities in rural areas.
The total amount allocated for construction of council assets from central government funds to the KHADC topped Rs 80 crore for 2016-2020. Executive Member in charge of development, Teibor Pathaw, said that there are 63 completed council buildings and 12 that are as yet incomplete.
However, Lyngdoh lamented that from the amount of Rs 80 crore nothing has been earmarked for the development of school infrastructure in rural areas that are managed by Dorbar Shnongs, religious bodies, etc.
