Congress MLA Ronnie V. Lyngngoh today resigned from the post of leader of opposition in the State Assembly.
His resignation from the post followed his being left alone as a Congress MLA after his three colleagues – Celestine Lyngngoh, Charles Marngar and Gabriel Wahlang – switched over to the ruling NPP.
Lyngdoh’s resignation was accepted by Assembly Speaker Thomas Sangma.
It is likely that a senior MLA from the five-member Trinamool Congress will stake claim for the post of leader of opposition.
At present, the opposition bench comprises of Trinamool Congress (5), Voice of the People Party (4) and Congress (1).
