Shillong, Nov 3: The Rongbiria Seng Kut Snem, organised by the Rongbiria Committee of the Seng Khasi Kmie, Mawkhar, held its traditional archery tournament in Polo Ground here on Sunday, with archers from urban and rural areas enthusiastically taking part.
In the group category, a total of 82 teams of archers participated, while in the solo category 218 individual archers competed.
This year’s event held special significance as it also marked the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Seng Khasi.
At the conclusion of the competition, the team from Sohra Rim emerged victorious in the group category, claiming the winning trophy after defeating the LaitkyrhongÏahunlang A team.
In the solo category, Decklan Lynrah from Umpling claimed the winner’s trophy, while J Sohshang from Pynthor secured second place and ShemborlangSawkmie from Tyrsad took home the third-place prize.
As with every event, the program began with a flag-raising ceremony led by O Pyngrope, president of Seng Khasi Kmie, followed by a prayer service conducted by Skor Jala. The occasion was graced by the presence of Hainess Marbaniang, general secretary of Seng Khasi Kmie, Danny Pariat, secretary of the Shillong Recreation Ground Trust, members of Jylli Pyrkhat Kam (JPK) Seng Khasi Kmie and other distinguished attendees.
In the evening, during the final round of the competition, the event was graced by the presence of Wailadmiki Shylla, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Matsiewdor War Nongbri, Commissioner and Secretary to the state government and a noteworthy archer, along with members of JPK and Seng Kynthei Seng Khasi Kmie.
